ithinkfi Common Issues
The issues members report most often, with the self-service fix that solves most of them in under ten minutes.
Who Uses Credit Union and Why: Common Issues
- Login failures rank as the most reported issue, at 31% of all 2024 support tickets.
- 68% of reported issues resolve through self-service without contacting support.
- The average self-service fix takes 9 minutes; the average agent-assisted fix takes 38 minutes.
- Frozen-card reports spike 40% in December, driven by gift-shopping fraud patterns.
The issues ranked by volume
Five issue types made up 74% of the 40,000 support tickets we handled in 2024.
| Issue | Share of tickets | Self-service fix rate | Typical fix time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Login failure | 31% | 82% | 5 min |
| Frozen card / declined | 18% | 61% | 8 min |
| Pending deposit | 11% | 40% | 1-2 days |
| App crash / blank screen | 8% | 73% | 6 min |
| Wrong transfer | 6% | 22% | 1 day |
Login failures
Four out of five login failures are a forgotten password or a locked account, both of which self-service fixes in minutes.
The reset flow sends a one-time code to the phone on file. If the account locked after five failed attempts, the 30-minute timer starts from the last attempt.
This fix does NOT apply when the username itself is unknown; that requires identity verification through support.
Frozen cards and declines
Most declines are fraud triggers, not account problems; reviewing and replying to the alert text unfreezes the card in under a minute.
December saw 40% more freeze reports than the monthly average, almost all triggered by rapid gift purchases. Replying YES to the alert text re-enables the card for the flagged merchant.
Pending deposits and hold times
Checks over $5,000 can hold for up to 2 business days under the standard availability policy; direct deposits never hold.
The hold protects both you and the credit union from returned checks. Mobile deposits submitted before 7:00 PM ET process the same business day.
The data does not cover holds placed for suspected fraud, which extend under a separate review process.
When self-service is not enough
Wrong transfers, fraud reports, and missing deposits should go straight to support rather than the self-service portal.
Reversals and fraud investigations need a human trail. Our data shows members who escalate these three early recover funds 2.4 times faster than those who wait.
Initially we routed everything through self-service to cut call volume but found recovery times worsened, so the escalation path was re-opened in 2024.
My card froze during a grocery run. I replied YES to the alert text and paid 40 seconds later. No call needed.
A duplicate transfer looked scary, but the reversal landed the next morning after I opened a ticket right away.
What is the most common issue members report?
Login failure is the most common issue, at 31% of all support tickets, and most cases fix themselves with a password reset.
Why was my debit card declined?
Declines usually trigger on fraud patterns; replying to the alert text unfreezes the card in under a minute.
How long can a check deposit be on hold?
Standard holds last up to 2 business days for checks over $5,000; direct deposits never hold.
Can I fix a wrong transfer myself?
No, wrong transfers need a support agent to start a reversal; escalate early for the fastest recovery.
Why does the mobile app show a blank screen?
A stale cache usually causes it; update the app and clear its cache, which fixes 73% of reports.
The ten-minute triage
- Identify the issue type
Match your problem to the five categories above.
- Run the self-service fix
Reset, re-enable, or update as the table suggests.
- Escalate if unresolved
Wrong transfers, fraud, and missing deposits go to support immediately.
- Confirm the fix
A confirmation email or push notification closes the loop.

Ticket volume by month
Ticket volume follows a seasonal pattern: quiet summers, then a December peak driven by card freezes and login lockouts on new devices.
Knowing the pattern helps members expect slower phone queues in the last two weeks of the year.
Still stuck?
Open a ticket or call support; average phone wait time is 4 minutes.
